When Thomas And Friends first aired on British Television in 1984 it fast became a favorite among young children everywhere.

The show, based on a book by Reverend W.V. Awdry, revolves around the adventures of Thomas The Tank Engine and his friends. Originally the show was made using live animation methods. Trains were just model trains and the faces were very simply animated by changing one facial expression to another with moveable eyes.

The show was narrated by one celebrity who recited the story and did all the characters voices much like a parent reading a book to a child. It was simple but it worked. Kids loved it.

These days the show now has elements of computer generated animation. All the characters have been recreated as computer models and facial expressions have been replaced with fully animated faces. I was a bit sad to see the old method go but somehow they have still managed to maintain the old charm of the original shows.

The show's name was converted to Thomas The Tank Engine and Friends in 2003 and is as popular as ever. Thomas The Tank Engine train sets can be found in every toy and department store as well as clothes, costumes and books.
